INSTRUCTION: Claims and Evidence Concept Development
All of you just read a text and came up with an idea about what happened.
The story "Conversation Piece" is very incomplete, but you can figure it out by coming to some conclusions.
What you said the story was about is your claim. You came to your claim because you read the textual evidence.
#1: SKILL PRACTICE
I will model how to make a claim and support with evidence with this photograph. I think that this little boy may be feeling guilty for something. The evidence that I have to support this is that his hands are behind his back, and he is under the edge of a counter. His eyes are widened, his eyebrows raised, and his mouth is slightly open as he looks up. He doesn't look happy to see the person in front of him. It seems like he is worried that he is going to be caught doing something bad. Therefore, I think he is feeling guilty. |
#2:YOUR TURN TOGETHER:
I think this woman is feeling _________.
The evidence that I have to support my claim is ________________________________ and _________________________. Also ______________________________________.
